House Concerts with Jeni Grouws this weekend! Friday show sold out-message me if you want to come Saturday!
Welcome to my website!!
Hi! Thanks for stopping by my website! The reasons for it are twofold: first, to promote my own music, whether it be from bands I’ve played with, especially Kingdom Brothers, or individual instrumental tracks I’m working on; and secondly, to advance guitar and music education using my experiences in private and classroom music and specifically guitar education.
I’ve been at this for more than 50 years. My guitar education experience was pretty haphazard compared to others. I pretty much picked up the guitar on my own after I’d already been through an elementary and high school band program, which taught me basic music skills such as reading music and rhythm. This took me into playing in local garage bands, which eventually led me to recording an album with the Macks Creek Band. About that time, I became interested in learning more about my instrument. Playing by ear up to that time, I grabbed an Alfred’s beginner guitar book and started to work on my reading. I had been a clarinetist in band, which proved fortuitous, because the clarinet has the same written range on guitar. From there I started teaching a few guitar lessons.
As time went on, I felt I had hit a wall. I’d been listening to players like Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and Larry Carlton as well as my rock and blues influences. I found a local teacher by the name of Duke Michalak. Duke has taught many local players, and working with him developed a desire to return to college to study guitar, theory and composition at Webster University.
My journey has really helped me in my teaching, realizing that every individual has a different path to follow. I am available for private lessons at two local music stores as well as on my own. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you find something of value here.
